    NAIDOC Week 2025

South West Care proudly honours and celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week, held annually in the first week of July (Sunday to Sunday), is a time for all Australians to learn about, reflect on, and appreciate the rich heritage of First Nations peoples. It is also an opportunity to recognise the vital contributions Indigenous Australians continue to make to their communities and to the nation as a whole.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. The origins of NAIDOC Week trace back to the 1938 Day of Mourning, a powerful protest against the mistreatment of Indigenous Australians, held on what is now known as Australia Day.

Each year, NAIDOC Week is guided by a theme that shapes the focus of celebrations and discussions. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week. It highlights the strength of Indigenous communities, the vision of their leaders, and the legacy being built for future generations, especially the contributions and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

At South West Care, we acknowledge and pay our deepest respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work. During NAIDOC Week and beyond, we reaffirm our commitment to walking alongside First Nations peoples in truth, respect, and reconciliation.
